Build a Holiday Themed Cheese Board
Tips for building a holiday themed cheese board with Atlanta Cheese Girl, Lauren Davis
I invited my friend and former bride, Lauren, over to share some tips and tricks for building a holiday themed cheese board. Lord knows cheese and charcuterie boards are my love language– they are perfect for creating conversation as people gather around and enjoy. I’ve been following Lauren’s growing business with LOTS of anticipation for a collab, and excited to say it’s here!
Lauren recently started a custom cheese board building business in Atlanta that has taken off. This boss-babe works at an addiction recovery organization during the day, then spends her spare time building these STUNNING boards for clients. I asked her to share some of her secrets JUST FOR YOU so you can create your own holiday-themed cheese board to wow your friends and family this season.
An easy way to create a show-stopping board is to choose a color palette (in this case, red, green, and white for Christmas), and stick to items within the color scheme you have chosen. Lauren also suggests using a variety of textures and tastes to give your guest’s taste buds a fiesta, and appeal to your cheese lovers, veggie lovers, and sweet lovers alike!
Here are a few tips she gave while building this stunner:
- Start with your cheeses, and arrange them in a somewhat symmetrical way. If you have hard cheeses, be sure to pre-slice some pieces to keep people from avoiding it because of the extra effort. You can spice up your cheese (brie is a great one to dress up) by adding jams, honey, or pepper jelly over the cheeses.
- As you move to fillers, start with the color you have the least of so it’s evenly spread out on the board. (For our board, green was the limited color, so she started there.)
- As you’re arranging things, look at shapes as well as colors. Use ramekins and small jars to hold condiments and add height and shape.
- Fill in all the spaces. It creates a “dig in” visual, and encourages guests to converse as they discover each exciting treat. (To help contain your goodies, look for a tray with sides. This allows control so you can stuff your board full of ALL the yummy eats.)
- Add whole pieces of fruits of veggies as space fillers. Notice the bright red tomatoes and green apple in our board.
- Don’t be afraid to add unconventional “cheese board” foods. You can mix veggies, nuts, fruits, candies, cookies, crackers, and more so no one’s preference is left out.
- For more festivity (and hella good smells), add fresh pieces of rosemary or holiday greens as garnish.
