Once I recognized the signs of mental unhealth I was experiencing, I knew deep breathing and a couple yoga classes weren’t going to cut it.
I needed a revival, and it required calling in the troops. Here are the steps I took to address my anxiety.
What I did:
See a Professional. The first step I took was getting in weekly Counseling. I had past wounds I needed to properly process along with learning to cope and manage my anxiety while I was working through things. Counseling and Therapy has been put in a box of weakness for far too long. You can read about my time here.
CBD. I started taking CBD oil every day. (Grab the brand I’ve used for years below or use 20% off with the code AMANDACOKER20 here) I opted out of anxiety meds–which is totally a personal decision. It probably would’ve made my process quicker, but it just wasn’t the route I chose to go.
I think CBD oil is often misunderstood and miscatagorized because it comes from a Cannibas plant.
Create Margin. I pulled out of weekly extra curricular responsibilities.
Delegate. I hired an office manager/assistant who took over all things admin. I started clearing my plate of certain responsibilities that someone else could do.
Say No. I stopped saying feeling guilty for saying no, and started saying no…a lot. I took social situations a day at a time, and decided last minute if I had the capacity to go.
Be Still. I went to meditation classes and started incorporating yoga and meditation into my mornings.
Talk About It. I started trying to vocalize emotions to a select few as much as I could.
Address the Physical. Anxiety is a physical reaction to stress or unresolved emotional wounds, and if unaddressed, is detrimental to your body. I started working with a hormone coach and overhauled my diet to help repair the damage anxiety had done to my body.
No matter what you do, just do something.
Start addressing it, but have patience with yourself. It’s a long and often not-forever-won battle, but these are steps you can take to address your anxiety. You CAN learn to manage it in a healthy way and get back to the kind of life you want to live. If you need resources, you can get my free wellness resource guide here!
All the information I share is based solely on my own health journey in hopes to raise awareness and give you the courage to take a step towards health. For any further advice, please contact a trusted professional who is trained in mental health.
